Frequently Asked Questions

Is prior experience with military electronic health systems required?
The clinic uses systems such as AHLTA, CHCS, CarePoint, ICDB, and Secure Messaging. Familiarity is helpful, but the posting does not require a minimum number of years of experience with any specific platform.
Will inpatient or long-term-care LPN experience satisfy the experience requirement?
No. Qualifying experience must have been obtained in outpatient acute care (hospital-based) or an ambulatory care setting within the last two years. General nursing experience without that setting does not automatically meet the requirement.
Can an LPN licensed outside Virginia apply?
Yes. A current, unrestricted LPN/LVN license issued by any of the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands is accepted, provided the license remains valid and unrestricted throughout employment.
How frequently are weekend and holiday shifts required?
Weekend coverage occurs approximately once per month on a rotational schedule. Coverage is also required on federally recognized holidays. Total hours are limited to 80 in any two-week period.
What does participation in the Medical Home Port model involve on a daily basis?
The LPN joins daily team huddles, helps identify overdue preventive services, supports care-coordination and follow-up planning, and contributes to documentation and operational requirements associated with accreditation and oversight activities.
Are shifts fixed to a single start and end time each day?
Shifts fall within the clinic’s operating window of 6:00 AM–6:00 PM Monday through Friday and range from 8.5 to 10.5 hours. Exact assignments may vary according to coverage needs, and flexibility across rotational shifts is expected.
