📋 Job Responsibilities

  • Perform preoperative assessment, consultation, history and physical examination for anesthesia preparation
  • Provide medical management of patients during the perioperative period, including general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care
  • Manage post-anesthetic recovery, procedural pain, and acute/chronic pain services
  • Place and manage invasive monitors and lines including arterial lines, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, epidurals, and spinals
  • Deliver anesthesia for complex cases including cardiothoracic procedures, pacemaker implantation, cardioversion, and neurostimulator management
  • Supervise and train medical students, student nurse anesthetists, and residents; provide consultation in critical care and pain management

Requirements

Education

MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school

Board Certification

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anesthesiology

License

Full and unrestricted medical license from any US State or territory

Experience

Completion of Anesthesiology residency; fellowship training preferred for subspecialties

DEA

DEA registration required

Additional

ACLS certification required; ability to work with complex veteran patient population

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Schedule: Full-time, determined by supervisor (typically weekday OR coverage with call)
  • Call Requirement: Shared call rotation for evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Patient Volume: Moderate to high acuity perioperative cases
  • Visit Length: Variable based on surgical procedures
  • EMR System: VA Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS)
  • Remote Option: None (onsite clinical position)

  • Base Salary: $350,000 - $400,000 per year (negotiable based on qualifications and experience)
