Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Supervise and direct assigned LVNs and Mental Health Technicians to support effective care delivery.
  • Administer medications, including injections, monitor treatment results, and note reactions to psychotropic and other agents.
  • Conduct intake assessments by interviewing patients and relatives to gather case history.
  • Respond to distressed patients using non-threatening approaches and de-escalation techniques while maintaining a safe unit environment.
  • Document patient activities, progress, vital signs, and clinical information accurately and follow physician orders.

Additional duties include consulting with psychiatrists and behavioral health staff on treatment plans, arranging further medical attention when needed, and performing limited administrative tasks such as completing progress notes in the computer system.

Qualifications & Requirements

The role requires active Texas nursing licensure and timely completion of specified certifications after hire.
