Responsibilities

  • Complete assessments within 24 hours of admission and each shift as needed by patient condition.
  • Develop and update the nursing plan of care within 24 hours of admission and at least every 24 hours thereafter, recording actions and patient response in Meditech.
  • Assess pain with the appropriate scale, intervene, and re-assess within one hour.
  • Administer medications according to policy, including eMAR scanning and medication reconciliation where available.
  • Plan and deliver patient teaching on tests, procedures, equipment, and medications, documenting understanding.

Additional duties include recognizing and documenting status changes, reporting adverse responses to the physician, performing hand-off communication at shift change, transfer, and discharge, directing LPN and Nurse Technician activities within their scope, and supporting National Patient Safety Goals.
