Responsibilities

  • Obtain medical, family, and social histories; perform physical examinations; order and interpret diagnostic studies and laboratory tests to support accurate diagnosis and staging.
  • Identify and implement medical treatment plans (protocol or non-protocol), write orders as permitted, and monitor patient response to therapy.
  • Coordinate patient care with ancillary clinical services, make appropriate referrals to consulting medical staff, and provide follow-up communication to referring physicians.
  • Collect, document, and analyze patient data in the medical record; maintain clinical research flow sheets and participate in accurate recording of research-related information.
  • Educate patients and families on self-care; orient and precept advanced practice students, residents, fellows, and new staff as assigned.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures as indicated by treatment guidelines or clinical status changes and participate in care coordination across the continuum.

Duties align with established standards, service-specific scopes of care, policies, procedures, and patient-specific protocols within the Critical Care Medicine division.

Qualifications & Requirements

Candidates must hold current certification and meet Tennessee licensing requirements. Pediatric intensive care or hematology/oncology experience is preferred but not required for application.

Education – Nurse Practitioner
Master’s degree in nursing required
Education – Physician Assistant
Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program
Certification
Passed NP or PA certification exam; Acute Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-AC) highly preferred for NPs
Licensure
Current Tennessee Advanced Practice Nurse or PA license (or Compact state eligibility); DEA certification within 6 months of employment
