Responsibilities

  • Set up the operating room with surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and supplies for cesarean sections and other OB/GYN procedures.
  • Scrub in, maintain aseptic technique, anticipate team needs, and pass instruments, sutures, and supplies during surgery.
  • Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping; perform sponge, sharp, and instrument counts with the RN according to hospital policy.
  • Handle surgical specimens correctly and complete post-procedure decontamination, cleaning, and restocking of instruments and supplies.
  • Respond to obstetrical emergencies including stat cesarean sections and postpartum hemorrhage while maintaining competency in the care of neonatal resuscitation equipment.
  • Support unit operations by assisting with vital signs, patient transport, and hygiene under nursing supervision, and by stocking labor rooms, ORs, and supply carts.

Daily work combines active scrub duties during obstetrical cases with readiness and support tasks across the Labor & Delivery unit.

Qualifications & Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the required education and certifications listed below. Prior surgical or Labor & Delivery experience strengthens a candidacy but is not mandatory.

High school graduate or equivalent and completion of a Surgical Technician training program
Required Certification
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from NBSTSA
Life Support
Current Basic Life Support / CPR certification through the American Heart Association
Preferred Background
At least one year of surgical experience; Labor & Delivery experience is highly desirable
