This Traveling Registered Nurse role is based out of the Allentown, Pennsylvania area and places the clinician in Compassus home-based hospice and home health programs. The nurse deploys to assigned program sites across the organization’s network when staffing gaps, census increases, or vacancies arise, returning to the home program between assignments as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to assigned Compassus programs to fill vacant positions, support census growth, or meet temporary staffing needs for 8–13 week periods.
  • Admit patients and complete routine and emergency assessments according to departmental policy.
  • Coordinate care across disciplines—including physical therapy, occupational therapy, social work, and home health aides—through case management guided by the Plan of Care.
  • Document observations, treatments, and clinical information at the bedside and communicate with the interdisciplinary team, Medical Director, and attending physician regarding symptom management.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on disease process, symptom control, wound care, and IV therapy while supervising LPNs and aides.
  • Update care plans after each Plan of Care change and support onboarding of new team members as a preceptor when needed.

The role emphasizes preventing unnecessary hospitalizations by meeting patient and family needs in the home and ensuring continuity of hospice or home health services.

Qualifications & Requirements

Candidates must hold an active, unencumbered RN license and be prepared to obtain additional state licenses for assignment locations. Experience in home health, hospice, oncology, or long-term care strengthens the application but is not mandatory.
